Life at War:

The Sampler Reviewlogo

Life at war – a group from Washington DC, member of the group include Sacrifice, Doobie, Dutch, Colaman, KaiG. From their myspace page http://www.myspace.com/lifeatwarcbc. This is a review of a sample of the work we have herd from them and hopefully will hear in the future.

“Love changes"-From When Love Turns To Lust

“Love Changes” is really smooth, and reminiscent of west coast music in the mid 90’s.  That music used to be called ride music, the type of music where you get into your car and ride around the city with the sunset in the background. Love changes appear to deal with the changes in relationships between men and woman. The second verse in this song makes me think about the different sides of woman from the hoes,to the real woman, and the regular every day chicks.    The last two verses were great, they gave me different views of life. Those verses were very introspective.

Gotta get it – From the soon to be released mixtape World of War

On every album in hip-hop, over the past thirty years there has been a “get money track.” People who are hungry and want to get out of the hood or present situations, they are poor and want money, or they just want money. This song is nothing different.  As other songs reviewed here different angles are covered from the everyday man, the dealer, and the educated rapper. While I like this song, I didn’t think it was the best I’ve herd from this collective. While this song takes nothing away from the classic lane of “get money” tracks it adds nothing in a way it sets its own lane.

Thuggin N locin – From Independence Day

A pure energy track, that while exuding energy also has a level of calm to it. Each MC brings intensity to their verse.  The song while great as a whole started off all over the place and towards the middle and into the end was very direct in its intentions of charting its own lane in what we know about thugs n locin.

Rebel Music – From Life At War

Rebel Music as a track is exactly like the title, a rebellion against the norm of hip-hop tracks. The song allows the MCs to illustrate this change from verse to verse.  The subjects of rebellion but different aspects are covered and that’s what makes this song special. It seems like the mc’s have the same information but are illustrating it differently. This is by far the best track out of the sample of tracks we were allowed to hear. When you as a public get your hands on this music find this track. I hope you enjoy it as I did.

G’s die young –From the soon to be released mixtape War of World

A great idea for a track, just the tile signals it is going to be something different and signal for a change in mindset and views from the normal in hip-hop. The urging of young people not to think that their whole life can be lead in 20 years is a thought expressed here. When I herd this track it defiantly made me listen a second time, close my eyes and see the world through the vision of these MC’s. If there is ever a doubt in your mind hip-hop can teach without trying to preach you want to hear this track.

This sample from Life at war is just a taste of what we expect to be a full meal of truth rap, riveting topics and subject matter that we will have no problem learning from as we grove to the music.
